It might be a little controversial but we believe that it’s NOT actually always all about the customer. And we’re proud to believe that sometimes being a little inwards-looking can in fact be a good thing. Our people – known as HSS’ers – are just as important to our business as our customers so we work hard both to recruit the right people in the first place and to make sure they are then happy here.
Why? Because only by having the right people, with the right attitude and the right skills will we ensure that we continue to deliver the excellent service quality and customer satisfaction that we’re known for - so when we’re recruiting, we always look for people that share our ‘HSSness’ approach to doing things.
We currently have more than 2,000 HSS’ers and they all play different but equally important roles in the success of our business. It’s a diverse team but that’s what makes it work so well. And what they do all have in common is the ability to understand the needs of our customers and the knowledge to provide advice and support in even the most specialist areas. They all help our customers drive operational efficiency whilst ensuring the highest levels of health and safety.
Every HSS’er has a can-do attitude; the capacity to make an impact and an unwavering commitment to our customers and every HSS’er believes and lives by the values of HSSness.
In return, we make sure that our colleagues are happy at work and well-equipped with skills they need to complete their role successfully, confidently and safely. We’re big believers in working smarter, not harder, so as well as providing a comprehensive training programme we also invest in developing industry-leading systems – like HSS LiveHire and Hire Insight - to support our teams.
Training, communication and recognition are key features in our positive and inclusive workplace – from the support of a dedicated Learning and Development Team that is passionate about internal promotion and recruiting from within to a commitment to sharing and caring that includes a bi-weekly internal newspaper (HSS Hiya), a monthly recognition programme (HSS Heroes) and an annual family event (Big Sunday).
